Jon Dunham

Jon Woodward Dunham, died unexpectedly at his home on June 5, 2026. He was born May 12, 1941, in McPherson, Ks., son of Maxine and Howard Dunham.

Growing up he was busy with many part-time jobs, hobbies and Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1959 and received a degree in biology from Ottawa University in 1963. While working in his first post-college job at the FDA, he met his future wife, Bonnie Dunn. They married in St. Joseph, Mo., on Sept. 5, 1964. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., Buena Park, Ca., and Prairie Village before settling in Lawrence, Ks., 40 years ago. He retired in 2000, as IT manager, after 23 years with E&E Specialties.

He was an original member of the Lawrence Stamp Club, delivered Meals on Wheels, and served on boards for neighborhood associations and his son's scout troop. He was an avid reader and traveled widely, making his final overseas trip to Japan in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by wife Bonnie Dunham, son Greg Dunham, daughter-in-law Dr. Cat Peace, grandson Hank, and granddaughter, Jane, all of Lawrence; and brother Scott Dunham, Jacksonville, Fla. A private family memorial is planned. Heartland Cremation Society handled arrangements. Memorials can be directed to Lawrence, Ks., Public Library Friends and Foundation, 707 Vt.
