John Jackson

John Victor Jackson was born March 4, 1932 in Lawrence, KS. He was the son of Millard and Matilda (Henon) Jackson. His early years were spent on the family farm west of Baldwin City helping his father to work the land. This land was bought in 1860 by his great-great Uncle, Thomas McQuillan, from a soldier that fought in the War of 1812 and has since always been in the family.

John attended a one room grade school, #10 near his home. In high school, he played football, basketball, and track while participating in 4H. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1951, a year later than he should have since he contracted polio before his senior year.

After he graduated from high school, John attended Baker University for two years. He then transferred and graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He was hired by the Kansas Department of Transportation and worked his entire 36-year career as a squad leader in the bridge department.

In Topeka, he met the love of his life, Anne Denison and were married May 28, 1961 at the First Presbyterian Church of Fredonia. Soon after, they welcomed three sons into their lives: John Brian Jackson, Steven Paul Jackson and Eric Brooks Jackson. John and Anne also have three grandchildren: Heather Rose, Alexander William and Sydney Rayanna. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

In 1963, the family moved to Berryton, KS. The family attended Hope Lutheran Church of which John was an active leader. He was active with his sons in scouting as a leader and scout master of Troop 183, eventually earning a Silver Beaver award for service to the council.

After retiring, John and Anne moved back to the family land in Baldwin City, built a home and lived there for over 30 years. During that time, he continued to serve in leadership roles at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lawrence, as President of the Santa Fe Trail Historical Society and as the President of the Prairie City Cemetery Association.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Millard Brian Jackson and Matilda Henon Jackson along with his sisters Mildred Dolores (Stecher) Clarridge and Dorthea Irene Jackson.

To Celebrate John's Life, the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026 at the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 712 9 th Street, Baldwin City, KS 66006. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Avenue, Lawrence, KS 66047. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Prairie City Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS.
