Wanda Whaley
Wanda Phyllis Whaley, 86, of Baldwin City, Kansas passed away Monday, August 24, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. She was born October 30, 1939, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of A. LaVerne Kampschroeder and Myrtle (Kingery) Kampschroeder. Wanda grew up on the family farm in Clinton, Kansas. She graduated with the Class of 1957 at Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas.
She was united in marriage to Kennith Whaley on June 22, 1957, at the Clinton Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Kansas. They shared over sixty-nine years of marriage.
Wanda was a homemaker, mother of her 5 boys, and farm wife. She worked in the Cafeteria for Baldwin City Schools for 23 years. She later worked at Cottonwood Rehab & Behavior in Lawrence, Kansas before retiring.
Wanda was a loving member in her community. She was part of the Worden Cornerstone Church family for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Hopewell Community Club where she gathered with neighbors from her local area.
Wanda loved to cook. It was her way of bringing people together. Her door was always open with an extra seat at the table. It seemed daily that she would show up at someone's door with a warm batch of brownies or fresh-baked cookies filled with all the love she freely offered.
Wanda's warmth and genuine love of others was reflected in her daily presence. She was at every game, concert, milestone, and birthday she could make for her kids and grandkids. She never hesitated to welcome others to her home the same as any of her own. Wanda's card drawer was always being restocked from the cards she mailed to others that were filled with well wishes, warm thoughts, and congratulations. She simply had a way of making others feel special and will be remembered for loving so deeply.
Whether in the hay fields, prepping milk bottles for the dairy, or caring for the livestock while Kennith was gone, she was always by Kennith's side on the farm.
Mrs. Whaley was preceded in death by her parents, A. LaVerne and Myrtle Kampschroeder.
