Joyce Dillon

Joyce C. Garst Dillon, 86, of Overbrook, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. Born on October 16, 1939, in Overbrook to Charles D. Garst and Leora M. Bachelor Garst, Joyce graduated from Overbrook High School in 1957.

On June 14, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, John E. Dillon. Together they raised three sons, Jeffrey, Douglas, and David Dillon, who preceded her in death in 2008.

Joyce is survived by her sons Jeffrey and Douglas; grandchildren Austin Dillon,

Cameron Dillon, Meghan Bartek, and Molly Hartman; seven great-grandchildren, Tate, Mabel, Finlee, Tyson, Maddox, Corbin, and Aris; her sister Marsha McKee; brother Douglas Garst (Julie); sisters-in-law Jacqueline Flory and Yvonne Heinen; stepsisters Carol Woodruff Turner, Barbara Woodruff, and Suzie Woodruff Mohr; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A lifelong resident of Overbrook, Joyce worked at several local businesses and, with her husband, owned the Overbrook Livestock Sale Barn and Red Barn Cafe for more than 20 years. She was active in countless community organizations, including the PTA, 4-H, the FFA, the Douglas County Fair Board, and the Overbrook Historical Society, of which she was a founder. She was honored as Douglas County 4-H Family of the Year, served as Grand Marshal of the Overbrook Parade, and won Mother of the Year every year, as told by her sons.

Known for her generous heart, adventurous spirit, and love of family, Joyce's final

message to those she loved was, ‘The Show Must Go On.’

Family graveside services were held at Washington Creek Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life for Joyce will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Overbrook Library from 1-3:00pm.
