Mary Emerson
Mary Lind Emerson, 97, passed away on September 30, 2025 in Fort Worth, Tx surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, John A. Emerson.
She was born in Chanute, KS. on February 14, 1928. She obtained her private pilot's license before attending the University of Kansas. She became a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After leaving KU, she became a flight attendant for TWA. In 1951, she married John Emerson.
Mary was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church for many years where she served on the Altar Guild. She was an active participant in the annual Ploughman's Lunch along with her friends in Trinity Treasures.
Mary was also a member of Chapter AZ of PEO since 1964. She enjoyed playing golf and was part of several bridge groups. She enjoyed her many friends of all ages, but, was especially devoted to her family.
Mary is survived by her son, Dr. John A. Emerson of Baldwin City, KS., her daughter, Mary Ann (Emerson) Boyd and her husband, Brenton Rixey Boyd of Ft. Worth, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mary Alexandra (Boyd) Thornton and her husband, Jeffrey Turner Thornton of Ft. Worth, TX., Margaret Ann Boyd of Ft. Worth, TX and Brenton Rixey Boyd, Jr. of Ft. Worth, TX. Great grandchildren Charlotte Ann Thornton and Jeffrey Cooper Thornton of Ft. Worth, TX. Mary also leaves behind her beloved brothers, Dick Lind of Lawrence, KS. and Jim Lind and his wife, Jane, of Chanute, KS.
A celebration of her life will take place at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vermont St., Lawrence, KS. at 11:00 a.m. on November 8, 2025.
