Meredith Taylor
Our beloved mother, Meredith A. Taylor (Kappelmann) of Lawrence, KS and Las Vegas, NV passed away peacefully at 93 in the care of her son and daughter in law.
She is survived by her five children, Jena Garcia (Joshua) of Peru, IL; Abby Silver (Gary) of York, ME; Kara Taylor of Topeka, KS; Lori Taylor of Peru, IL; Andy Taylor (Jennifer) of Las Vegas, NV. Also, her son in law Dan Peters of Tucson, AZ, eight grandchildren and one great grandson. She was predeceased by her husband George Taylor, daughter Joli Peters and son in law Cary Grimm. Meredith is also loved and remembered by her cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.
Meredith was born in White City, KS, the daughter of Zelda and Otto Kappelmann. She graduated White City High School in 1949, attended two years of university classes, and later earned a BFA degree from Washburn University in 1987. During her 30+ year art career she participated in so many creative endeavors. She taught middle school art classes in the Chicago area, helped manage an art cooperative, helped curate a donated collection of fine European artwork, served as a volunteer and guide throughout the ‘Treasures of the Czars’ exhibit in Topeka. She also produced a body of artwork that included lapidary, silversmithing, sculpture, ceramics, photography and a portfolio of colorful and breathtaking abstract paintings.
She married her husband, George Taylor in New Jersey on May 20, 1953. They eventually made their way back to Lawrence, KS where they developed and managed an apple orchard along N. 1600 Rd.
She was privately buried next to her husband in the Stull Cemetery along Stull Rd. (N. 1600 Rd.). All who knew her are welcome to visit their gravesite. Please, bring only prayers, good memories and JOY for a long life well lived!
