Norma Hohn

Norma Lee (Chapin) Hohn, 81, of Lawrence, Kansas passed at her home on May 5, 2025. Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Graveside to follow at Pioneer Cemetery in Lawrence.
Norma was born on December 22, 1943 in St. John's, Michigan, the daughter of Myrl and Josephine (Martinka) Chapin. She grew up on her parents' farm, surrounded by her loving extended family who continued to be her close friends and confidants for the rest of her life. After graduating from Ashley High School, Norma attended Michigan State University where she received her degree in elementary education. It was there that she met her eventual husband, Robert Hohn, who was attending graduate school at Michigan State. Norma married Robert on August 10, 1968 in Lansing, Michigan. He proceeded her in death December 25, 2020.
Norma worked as an educator throughout her life, teaching elementary school students in Michigan and Kansas and teaching special education in Lawrence after receiving her M.S. in Special Education from the University of Kansas. Norma loved children: the children she taught in school, the children of her friends and family, and her own children and grandchildren.
Norma is survived by her two sons, Robert Hohn of Franklin, TN and Keith Hohn of Manhattan, KS; daughter-in-law, Joanna (Wood) Hohn; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Hohn and Ryan Hohn. She cherished her family, often going out of her way to bake beloved cookies or craft a favorite meal for special occasions. On birthdays and anniversaries, her family could expect to receive a hand-made card featuring whatever craft she was into at the time.
Norma served as a den mother for a number of years while her sons were Cub Scouts. Late in life, she enjoyed traveling with KU faculty and their spouses at the Endacott Society.
Memorial contributions may be made in Norma's name to the Endacott Society or Pioneer Cemetery and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
