William Kinnersley

William Morris Kinnersley, III passed away Wednesday, February 19 after a long illness. He was born January 3, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. Bill earned a Bachelor's degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. While studying at RPI, he met his future wife Nancy with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage. Bill completed a PhD in Physics at Caltech in Pasadena, California. Upon graduating from Caltech, Bill (along with his wife Nancy) lived in many states across the country, finally settling in Bozeman, Montana to start a family. Bill was a Physics professor at Montana State University, and his time in Bozeman was some of the happiest of his life. After Nancy earned her PhD in Computer Science, the family moved to Lawrence, Kansas where Bill and Nancy both taught at the University of Kansas. Bill completed his career at Sprint.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Nancy. He is survived by three children: Susan Patterson of Kansas City, MO; Margie Kinnersley of Stephenson, MT; and a son William Kinnersley of Cranston, RI. He leaves two grandchildren: Alex and Nathan Patterson. Also left to cherish Bill's memory is his companion of 4 years, Karen Malone, who supported him throughout his illness; in addition to Bill's cherished high school friends of over 68 years from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.

At Bill's request, no funeral services are planned. He felt the best way to honor someone's memory was to sit around and share memories of that person. So please, gather with your friends or family and tell them about Bill. He also loved Dorothy Parker poetry, Science Fiction, Mel Brooks movies and the game show Jeopardy. The next time you stumble across one of these favorite things, take a moment to watch and remember Bill.
