Henry was baptized at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Bayonne. He graduated from St. Peter's Prep High School in 1955 and St. Peter's College in 1959, both in Jersey City, NJ. He married Frances McGrath, his beloved wife of 53 years, on October 21, 1972 at St. Stephen of Hungary Church in New York City. The couple has a son, Thomas Henry. They lived first in New York City and then in Lynbrook, NY until retiring to Sunrise, FL.
Henry earned his Masters in Business Administration from Baruch College in 1977. He worked in New York City as an accountant and ultimately, a tax executive throughout his career for companies including The New Jersey Zinc Company, Gulf and Western, United Artists Corporation and Pittston Company, and retired in 2001 as the Vice President of Tax at International Flavors & Fragrances. Henry served as the Regional Vice President and the New York Chapter President for the Tax Executives Institute. His career afforded him multiple opportunities to travel domestically and internationally.
Henry enjoyed studying history and reading historical non-fiction. He also found pleasure in taking long walks and was known to walk a daily commute that most would have taken by subway. At 50 years old, Henry took up running, participating in multiple 5K races and twice running the Long Island Half-Marathon, most recently at age 70. Henry was a life-long Knicks and Giants fan, and an ardent supporter of St. Peters basketball, a team that rewarded his fandom when they made it to the Elite 8 in 2022. In retirement, he and Fran enjoyed taking numerous guided tours to Europe.
Henry was an amazing husband and father. He loved being a grandpa to Ryan Henry, his only grandchild. When he first held Ryan, he whispered to him that he had been waiting his whole life to be a grandpa. He was a man of great patience who led a life of kindness at its core.
Henry is survived by his loving wife Frances; son Thomas (Katie) of Lawrence, KS; grandson Ryan; and many cousins. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Thomas and Emma McGrath.
