Dennis Daugherty

Dennis Allan Daugherty, recently of Utica, New York, passed to eternal life on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Dennis was born on September 9, 1939 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, the only child of Allan and Lucile Daughterty. Dennis grew up in Baldwin City, Kansas. After finishing high school, he enrolled in Baker University where he completed his freshman year before transferring to the University of Kansas and completing a BA/BS in Education. Upon graduation from KU, he began teaching elementary school in Eudora, Kansas. In 1970, Dennis began a series of jobs in administration and publishing, first as Office Manager of the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita, then Director of Public Relations at DeMolay International in Kansas City. After another role as Vice President at Lawson Advertising in Kansas City, he accepted the role of Business Administrator of LEADERS Magazine here in New York City in 1985 and served in that role for 10 years. Following that he also served as Business Manager of The Neuhoff Gallery, as well as Executive Secretary of The Church Club of New York, before retiring in 2005. After spending most of his retirement in New York City, he moved to the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY in 2021, where he lived until his passing.

Dennis was a member of Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, where he served as an usher for over 20 years. He was also active in Freemasonry for over 63 years. His contributions to Freemasonry, far too extensive to list here, included election to Worshipful Master of Publicity Lodge #1000 in 1997, his work as Director of Grand Lodge tours at the Masonic Hall in New York City, and his involvement with many individual lodges as a ritual and leadership coach. He was also a member of St. John's Lodge # 1 and Kane Lodge #454.

Although he had no immediate family, Dennis will be sorely missed by all those who knew him as a devoted friend, mentor, leader and Masonic brother. A graveside service will be held on June 1 at 11 a.m at Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City.
