Ronald Christie

Ronald Lee ‘Ron’ Christie, 68, of Overbrook, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 6, 1956, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Elmer and E. Nadine (Redford) Christie. He graduated Lawrence High School in 1975. He served in the Marine Corps and was stationed in Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA and also served in Okinawa, Japan.

Ron was employed by FMC for 20+ years in Lawrence, KS. Later he worked as a plumber and pipe fitter in Colorado Springs, CO, until he retired.

Mr. Christie was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lawrence for many years.

Ron married Cindy Wilson in 1982 in Lawrence. From this union Ron gained 2 sons, Thomas and Geoffrey. They divorced but remained good friends. He then married Marla Dalquest but would later divorce.

Survivors include sons, Geoffrey Lee Christie of Topeka and Thomas (Shelly) Christie of Lawrence, grandchildren, Sophia & Finn Christie, and Alec & Keira Christie, sister, Rhonda (Richard) Rose of Lawrence, and many nieces, a nephew, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Richard Christie.

Ron was the life of the party! He loved his family & friends and was known as the prankster and one heck of a story teller. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, and all things sports with KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks. His favorite thing was tailgating with his sons at the Nascar races.

Ron's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:30 – 4:00p.m., April 13, 2024 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Building 21 South, 2120 Harper St. in Lawrence 66046. Marines will honor Ron beginning at 2:00p.m. If you know Ron, you know better than to wear a suit and tie to this event! Please dress comfortably.
