Stewart Nowlin

Stewart Nowlin died of cancer June 14, 2024 at his home. He was born in Santa Ana California in 1939. The family later moved to Holton, KS, where Stewart graduated from high school in 1957. He enrolled at the University of Kansas,, interrupting his education there in 1962 to enlist in the U.W. Army, where he served until 1964. He then returned to K.U. to complete his degrees in English and philosophy. He later pursued studies in computer programming and photography in Madison, WI.

Stewart initially worked in the book trade, as a publisher's representative and in bookstore management at the U. of Kansas and the U. of Missouri. Later he pursued wedding, portrait, and landscape photography. He was passionate about off road motorcycle racing, winning several regional and national races. He continued racing into his early 70s.

Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Dorothy Nowlin, and his older brother John. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Nancy, his sons Patrick [Jessy Wang] and Eric [Yaeko Hiyama], grandchildren Isabelle, Veronica, and Rosalie Nowlin, brother David [Sharon], sister Mary Nowlin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held later.
