Mary Mozingo

Mary Clarice Sloan Mozingo, age 82, of Lawrence, KS, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. The third child of Eldon and Harriet Perry Sloan, Mary was born August 7, 1941, in Topeka, KS. She graduated from The Bishop's School in La Jolla, CA in 1959, attended Smith College in Northampton, MA, and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1963. She married John Charles Mozingo in 1965 and lived in Wichita, KS and later moved to Dallas, TX, where they adopted two children, Samuel Charles and Sarah Catherine. Years after divorcing, Mary returned to Kansas in 1989, first to Topeka, then to Lawrence in 2005. Mary's career included several areas, including continuity writer for both radio and television, retail and residential real estate sales, and retired as a Disability Examiner for the Social Security Administration. Mary was active in the Episcopal Church wherever she lived,

most recently as a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence. Mary enjoyed singing in the church choirs and sang in civic groups, including the Motet Singers of Lawrence. She was a former member of the Topeka, Wichita and Dallas Junior Leagues. She was a member of PEO Chapter GQ, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and in Kansas, the Mayflower Society, the Williams Educational Fund that supports all University of Kansas student-athletes and was a lifetime member of the KU Alumni Association. Mary enjoyed playing bridge, cribbage, knitting, sewing, reading for multiple Book Clubs, and doing philanthropic work for the community. Trinity Treasures was a favorite group built on the common interest of creativity to make one-of-a-kind items to raise money for the community.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Sam. She is survived by her daughter Sarah Martin (Drew), of Hutchinson, KS, brothers John Sloan (Sandy) of Gig Harbor, WA, and Paul Sloan (Karen), of San Rafael, CA as well as many nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank all the friends and family for their prayers, love, and

support, including the women of Trinity Treasures, her bridge clubs, book clubs, PEO Sisters and her caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Samuel C Mozingo

Scholarship fund at Stephen F Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX, Trinity Episcopal Church, or the Lawrence Humane Society in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home: P.O Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Services will be held at 11 am Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vermont Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
