Laura ‘Libby’ Elizabeth Merritt (1958-2023)

A celebration of Life for Libby Merritt (Johnston), 65 Pittsburg, will be held from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday November 8th at Eagles Lodge in Lawrence. Libby passed away unexpectedly on Friday September 29th, 2023 in her home.

She was born in Killeen, Texas in 1958 birth to Dell Henry Johnston, Jr. and Jean Wallace. She graduated from Lawrence High in 1976. She married Charles Read in 1980, had 3 sons, & later divorced.

She had many talents and interests. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She loved antiquing, crafting, music, and dancing. She also had a passion for researching her family's genealogy and lineage.

She is survived by two sons; James Read (Michelle) of Lawrence & John Read (Cara) of Pittsburg, four grandchildren, Hailey, Ethan, Hudson, and Everly, siblings Dell Henry Johnston III, Marci Cook, Jill McClung, Emily Johnston, & Kerri Snow (JD) & many nephews & nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dell and Jean and son Steven.

She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
