Sandra Flachsbarth

Memorial services for Sandra Lee Flachsbarth, 82, Lawrence, will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2104 Bob Billings Pkwy, Lawrence, Kansas with a reception immediately following the service. Inurnment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Atchison, Kansas at a later date. Sandra passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023.

Sandra was born on November 24, 1940 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Eula (Wardlow) Lohr. Sandra attended Quincy schools and Kansas University, where she received her bachelor's in education. While at KU, Sandra met the love of her life, Leland B. Flachsbarth and the two were married on December 29, 1962 in Quincy. Sandra and Leland were married for 57 years until Leland's passing in March of 2020. Survivors include their children, Joel (Missy) Flachsbarth, Lance (Leslie) Flachsbarth, Heather (Guy Ornes) Flachsbarth, Brett (Melissa) Flachsbarth, and Emily Flachsbarth; ten grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kyle, Kaylen, Kennedy, Joseph, Hadley, Audrey, Sydney, Molly and Emma; sister-in-laws, Ruth Lohr, Olathe, Kansas, Alnoma Flachsbarth, Lawrence, Kansas, Kathleen (John) Puffer, West Chicago, Illinois and nieces and nephews. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert W. Lohr.

Sandra taught in the Lawrence School District, starting as a substitute teacher, followed by a tenure as a long term substitute at Pinkney Elementary and finally as a full time first grade teacher at Woodlawn Elementary in 1988 until her retirement in 2006. Sandra was firm, fair and loving, treating each one of her students as if they were one of her own. Sandra was a member of the KU Alumni Association and proud supporter of the Jayhawks and Lawrence High Lions. She was a fixture at her children's and grandchildren's activities and sporting events and especially loved reading and baking with her grandkids. The family suggests memorials in Sandra's name to Cottonwood Incorporated and The Arc of Douglas County and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary,
