Nicholas Parscale

Nicholas Steven Parscale, 14, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away in the early morning hours of June 15, 2021 after an almost five-year battle with cancer. He was in the loving arms of his mother, father and brother.

He was born, June 23, 2006, and was often told he was ‘an old soul’ and wise beyond his years. He cherished his friends and family and there was nothing Nicholas liked to do more than visiting with his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Additionally, he adored animals and loved his four dogs and two cats with all his heart. He enjoyed playing video games, watching YouTube videos, cooking and art.

When Nicholas was first diagnosed with cancer in July, 2016, he shared frequently that he believed God gave him cancer ‘so that another little kid would not have to have it. He knew ‘I could handle it’. He took every opportunity of his journey to help others and to make new friends along the way. ‘Nick the Brave’, as he would come to be known, believed that if one could remain positive throughout the journey, life would be so much better. He lived each day looking forward to its possibilities and fought the disease with grit, determination and grace. He was selfless beyond measure and always greeted people with a smile and a quick ‘how are you today?’

Nicholas is survived by his mother, Geri and father, Dave Parscale and his brother, David. Other survivors include his aunts and uncles, Bill Dameron, Sandy Dameron, Teresa and Randy DeWitt, Gerry and Craig Conklin, Annette Moore, Boyd Parscale, David Fenley, Hannah Fenley and Mark and Marillyn Fenley; numerous cousins and hundreds of friends.

Through his ‘Nick the Brave’ podcasts and his book ‘What I Wish I Knew Before Cancer’, Nicholas demonstrated his positivity, his strength and his love for all. His legacy will live on by helping untold numbers of kids and families travel a cancer journey that they may face and to all who knew him, may we continue his message of positivity and love.

A parish rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 Bob Billings Parkway. Nicholas's family will greet friends and family following the rosary until 7:00 p.m.
