Frederick Hahn

A memorial service was held for Frederick James Hahn on May 27, 2021, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Gunnison Colorado. Born July 23, 1941, to Esther Louise and Frederick Frank Hahn, he was called Jim by his family and ‘Doc’ by his students and friends. Jim attended the University of Colorado in Boulder followed by law school at the at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Doc taught business law and accounting in Indiana before moving to Gunnison to teach at Western State from 1969 until his retirement in 2008, after which he remained active as an emeritus professor. He also continued providing funds to students who had trouble paying for books or had other life challenges.

At Western, he served as the women's basketball coach for 11 years and held the record for the most career wins in a season. He served on virtually every committee in the College and was the faculty representative to the Board of Trustees.

Jim is survived by his sister Esther P. Lerner of Lawrence, KS and his nephew Michael G. Lerner of Richmond, IN. He will be missed and his memory treasured by all who knew him.
