Hayleigh Wempe

Funeral services for Hayleigh ‘The Hammer’ Quinn Wempe, 15, Baldwin City, KS, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds ~ Derby Arena in Lawrence (you will need to enter the south gate for the funeral at the fairgrounds). Private family burial will be held at Clinton Cemetery in Clinton, KS. Hayleigh passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 in Eudora, KS.

Hayleigh was born on November 27, 2005 in Lawrence, the daughter of Carl John Springer and Amy Leigh (Wempe) Douglass.

She was a student at Baldwin City High School and a member of the Baldwin City High School Wrestling Team, Volleyball Team and Softball Team. She was also a member of the Palmyra 4-H Club, the FARM Wrestling Club, SlyFox Wrestling Academy, Cobbs Strong Wrestling, and Rivers Jiu Jitsu.

From the moment she entered our lives she was extraordinary.

She had an infectious smile and laugh. She lit up every room she entered.

She was selfless. She never hesitated to help a fellow showman, classmate, teammate, anyone in need. If she had it to give, she gave.

In regards to wrestling or showing livestock, the second she stepped into the arena, she gave her heart and soul. Her presence interested fans of all ages.

She loved her family, friends, teammates, classmates and animals. She showed much compassion, care, and grace for all.

She had the tenacity, grit, and perseverance to meet any challenge. She conquered so many challenges in her 15 years, but not without the upmost courage, strength and grace.

Survivors include her mother, Amy Leigh (Jeremy) Douglass, Baldwin City; siblings; Hannah Moore, Dalton Douglass, Galen ‘Dodge’ Douglass; father, Carl John (Rachel) Springer, Eudora; siblings; Ryan Springer, Landon Springer, Cora Springer, Aiden Springer, Braydon Springer, Amaya Springer, Billy Springer; grandparents, Pete & JoAnn Wempe, Debbie & Phillip Metsker, LeAnn Springer, Bill & Rebekah Springer, Nancy & Erik Larson.

A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel (1003 John L. Williams Drive, Eudora, KS 66025)

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Hayleigh Quinn Wempe Memorial Fund to benefit Baldwin High School Girls Wrestling, and/or Douglas County 4-H'ers and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
