Janice Arlene McCue

Janice Lucero McCue, age 70, of Tonganoxie, died Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at home. She was born February 13, 1950, to

Homer and Dona Lucero.

She married Geoffrey McCue on October 14, 1972. She was blessed with two children, Lucas Homer McCue and Jennifer Lee McCue. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband Geoff of the home; her son Lucas and daughter Jennifer, along with James Torneden. Additional family members are Richard and Janet Daniel, Mary and Garry Bichelmeyer, Tom and Joyce Massic, Jeanie and Lew Jobson, Nancy Lucero, and Darryl and Shirley Lucero. Nieces and nephews, including Stephanie (Tom) Hebert, Karen (David) Salerius, James (Andrea) Nemeth, Chris (Mitch) Bachman, Angela (Jason) Nemeth, Beth (Tom) Stean, Shawn Lucero, Heather (Kevin) Anderton, Jodi (David) Blackburn, Bryan (Gloria) Jobson, and Justin Jobson. She had 21 great-nieces and nephews. All the children had brought her immense pride and joy.

Janice graduated from Washington High School in 1968, was a member of the National Honor Society, belonged to the French Club and worked on the Hatchet Yearbook. She had an associates degree in early childhood development from KC Community college and attended the University of Kansas. She moved to Colorado where she attended Metro University. While in Colorado, she met Geoff.

Janice was always available to help anyone. She home schooled her special needs children. Lucas became an avid reader and he and Jennifer are active in a book club. She devoted her life to different aspects of 4H. First she became involved as a member and developed her skills in sewing and cooking. She won multiple grand prize ribbons for her sewing projects. As a parent. she guided Lucas and Jennifer through their bucket calf, goat and other projects. County Fair time was always a busy time, with her leadership skills called to the test. She was a 4H club leader and was secretary of the Leavenworth County 4H Foundation.

Janice along with other parents of special needs children organized events that were designed to be engaging for them. They named the group T.A.G. (Totally Awesome Group). They included craft projects, birthday celebrations, bowling outings, formal dances. They studied different regions of the world customs such as Ireland, and France sampled foods that were popular in that country.

Janice’s lifelong love sewing was expressed in the multiple quilts she made.

Janice often hosted family gatherings, including Thanksgivings, Christmas always baking dozens of the coveted homemade dinner rolls. She shared her home for birthday parties, wedding and baby showers.

Janice cared for her aunt, Georgie in her last days. And opened her home to her father until his death.
