Lou Ellen Poore Gehlbach

Lou died peacefully on November 26, 2016 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas. She was born July 5, 1930 In Wheaton, Kansas to Homer Ivan Poore and Thelma Iris Tunison Poore. She was a graduate of Wyandotte High School, Kansas City, Kansas. She attended Kansas State University and majored in Physical Education. She met Walter Roy Gehlbach there they were married December 21, 1950 in Kansas City, Kansas. They had four children and lived in Alma, Lawrence, Shawnee and Lenexa, Kansas. Lou worked for the Shawnee Mission School District and KU Medical Center. She retired in 1992. She made great pie and loved swimming, quilting, reading, cats and singing while she ironed. She grew a lovely flower garden and took her grandkids to movies and plays. She loved Kansas City. She often said, “There is never enough time,” when her family was together. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Bruce Gehlbach and is survived by her devoted husband Walt; brothers Larry and Garry Poore; children: Deb (Ray) Rowden, Lawrence; Gregg Gehlbach, Lawrence; Dan (Janis) Gehlbach, Olathe; grandchildren Betsy and Kate Rowden; Dylan, Doug and Ben Gehlbach, and 4 greatgrandchildren. Lou was a strong, caring, generous, funloving, familyoriented, wonderful woman, wife, mother, sister, grandma, friend and partner. We miss her. We will celebrate her life at Lakeview on December 15 at 2 p.m. and at Southminster Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017.
