Sally Frerichs Piller

Sally Frerichs Piller passed away of complications from lung cancer on December 3, 2015. Her family was close at hand.
Sally was born in St. Louis in 1955, the daughter of Eugene and Geraldine Frerichs. She moved to Lawrence in 1973 to attend college at the University of Kansas where she obtained a degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Printmaking. Sally married Lynn Piller in 1978 in Lawrence.
Sally was a talented artist and produced a wonderful and distinctive catalog of images during her career as a printmaker. Her technique and subject matter evolved through time, but her imagery was focused on animals, often containing fantastic scenes. Her artwork reflected her love of nature.
Sally was also a lifelong enthusiast of horseback riding. She started riding at a very young age and went on to become an accomplished dressage rider. Her passions for art and dressage often met; she prominently featured horses in her artwork.
Sally was an intelligent, opinionated, forthright person who would always speak frankly. She had excellent taste in music, art, and literature. She was an amazing cook, and was particularly talented at baking pies; her friends called her the Pie Queen.
Sally is survived by her husband Lynn Piller, her children Katharine and James Piller, her brothers Bill and John Frerichs, and her sisters Kathy Stevens and Laura Kurzu.
There will be a celebration of Sally’s life on Wednesday December 30 at the Cider Gallery in Lawrence, KS, starting at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Lawrence Humane Society or the charity of your choice. (Arr: Cremation Society of KS & MO, 913-383-9888)
