James “Jim” Thomas Adamson, 75, of Gardner, passed away February 4, 2013 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am Friday, February 8, 2013 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 555 W. Main, Gardner, KS. Burial follows at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Olathe, KS. Visitation 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111 with Rosary at 8:00 pm. Jim was born July 13, 1937 in Easton, KS to Clarence Routh and Catherine Ann (Higgins) Adamson. He grew up in Easton then moved to Lawrence where he graduated from Lawrence High in 1955 and attended KU. Jim joined the US Marine Corp, later settled in Olathe and moved to Gardner in 2006. He married Phyllis Mae Carter on May 6, 1961 in Lawrence. They owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Olathe during the 1970’s. Jim was a Sales Rep. and Sales Manager for Pittsburgh Paint & Glass in Kansas City for 20 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Jim was an avid KU fan and coached Youth League Sports in Olathe. He was very involved in his grandchildren’s activities. Jim will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis, in 1998 and sister Delores “Dee” Johnson. Jim is survived by his children, Greg and Virginia Adamson, Austin, TX, Steve and Louise Adamson, Gardner, KS, Karen and Curt Sergeant, Lebo, KS; siblings, Edith “Sam” Ernzen, Easton, KS, Clarence “Mick” Adamson, McKinney, TX, Catherine Farney, Indianapolis, IN, Fred Adamson, El Paso, TX, Linda Heim, Easton, KS; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
