Gertrude V. (Beaird) McCain

Gertrude V. (Beaird) McCain, 92, of Olathe, KS and preciously from Kansas City, KS passed away, Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence, KS. Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3232 Metropolitan Ave in Kansas City, KS with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at 12 pm. Interment to follow at Lee’s Summit Cemetery in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Gertrude was born February 2, 1920 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Archie and Gertrude (Gochenour) Dempsey and attended school in the Rosedale area. She married William John Beaird March 28, 1936 and he preceded her in death on September 7, 1952; from that marriage of 26 years four daughters were born and those surviving are Margaret Sale and Edna Carrico of Olathe, KS, Sadie Deaton (Jerry) of Lawrence, KS and Shirley Taylor deceased of Kansas City, KS. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gertrude retired from Dolly-Madison Bakery after 15 yrs when the company moved to Emporia, KS.
She remarried L. Golden McCain in 1957 and together they lived in Excelsior Springs, MO and Independence, MO. Gertrude moved to Olathe, KS after the passing of Mr. McCain to be closer to her family.
She enjoyed ceramics and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, KS. She was known as one of the “garden girls” along with her daughters at the church. Family suggests contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3232 Metropolitan Ave., Kansas City, KS or Grace Hospice, 1420 Wakarusa, Suite 202, Lawrence, KS.
