Dorothy L. Gilliland

Dorothy L. Gilliland passed away May 22, 2012, in Overbrook, Kansas. She was born January 14, 1911 at Mount Ida, Kansas, the daughter of Nathan T. and Bertha A. McNary. She attended schools in the Burlington, Kansas area and graduated from Pomona High School in 1930. She taught four years in rural schools around Pomona. She married Earl Gilliland April 22, 1934 and farmed with him in the Pomona area. She was active in the Beacon Light EHU and later in the county at large group. She was a 4-H leader for the Appanoose 4-H for several years. In 1970 she was named Woman Leader of the year for the Franklin County Farm Bureau. She and Earl traveled to several foreign countries with the Farm Bureau.
Dorothy is survived by four children; Nadine Briggs and husband Larry of Centropolis, Rex and wife Elaine, Overbrook, Helen Patterson and husband, Bill, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Keith and wife Karen of Mukilteo, Washington; nine grand children and 15 great-grand children.
She was preceded in death by husband, Earl; brothers Gladden, Glen and Herbert McNary.
Graveside funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Dean Cemetery, rural Franklin County.
Mrs. Gilliland’s family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenwood-Roberts Funeral Home, Overbrook.
