Fern Weihe

Fern Weihe, 89, Lawrence, passed away on Tuesday, July 10th, 2012. Memorial services for Mrs. Weihe will be held Friday, July 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Westside Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold, Lawrence, KS.
Fern was born June 25, 1923 in Rantoul, KS, the daughter of C.E. & Irene Mercer. After graduating from Wellsville High School in 1941, Fern worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition plant in DeSoto, KS during World War II.
On June 8, 1946 Fern married Ken Weihe of Lorraine, KS. The couple lived in Lyons, KS where they farmed for several years, then moved to Larned, KS, where Fern worked at First State Bank for 29 years.
In 1996, Fern and Kenneth moved to Lawrence, KS to be close to their daughters. She resided at Brandon Woods for the past three years. Mrs. Weihe was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Fern also enjoyed playing golf, cooking, and surrounding herself with a loving extended family.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane and her husband Ron Hazen; daughter, Debbie and her husband Bud Burke; and brother, Wayne and his wife Vera Mercer, all of Lawrence, KS. Also, sister, Wanda Smith of Smith Center, KS. She was preceded in death by husband Kenneth; daughter, Rebecca; and sister, Mary Lou Janzen.
Other survivors include six stepgrandchildren and close family friends, the former Angela, Meredith, Catherine and Charlotte Dikeman.
