Ruth Catherine Payne

Ruth Catherine Payne, 84 of Baldwin City, KS passed away at 7:35 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab Center in Baldwin City.
Ruth was born December 10, 1926, in Russell, KS to Benjamin Franklin and Vera C. (Smelley) Brooks. She attended schools in Russell, graduating from Russell High School. She graduated from Baker University in 1948 with her Bachelors in Mathematics.
On September 7, 1948, in Baldwin City, she married Clark B. Payne. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1995.
Ruth was a homemaker.
Ruth attended First United Methodist Church of Baldwin City and First United Methodist Church of Duncan, Oklahoma.
Ruth was the past president of United Methodist Women, past president of Church Women United, St. Louis, past board member of Kingdom House, past board member of Delmo Housing, past member of Ballad of Black Jack, representative of Phi Mu, active member for the American Cancer Society and Salvation Army.
Survivors include sons Joel B. Payne and wife Adelheid of Aachen, Germany and their children Julian and Elena, C. Brooks Payne and wife Susan of Berrien Springs, MI and their children Tracy Flewelling and husband Mike of Loma Linda, CA and Brianna, and James B. Payne of Baldwin City and his children Christian, Spencer, Clare and Catey; daughter Susan Fulton and husband Dwight of Duncan, OK and their children Sarah and Rebekah; sister Virginia Moore of Parkville, MO.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Alice Claire Payne and sister Francis Dawson.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City with Rev. Dr. Connie Wilson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. The family will receive friends after the services at the church. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Baker University, Baldwin First United Methodist Church or Duncan First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box #64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
An additional service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, Duncan, OK with Rev. Phil Ware officiating.
