Fred Altheide

Bolivar, Mo. — Private family services for Fred Altheide, 77, Bolivar, formerly of Lawrence, Kan., will be at a later date. Cremation is planned.
Mr. Altheide died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, in the Citizens Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Harold and Aileen Johnson Altheide.
Mr. Altheide was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 138 of Bolivar. Mr. Altheide worked at DCCCA Center and Crossbridge Counseling Center, both in Lawrence. He and his wife owned Carroll’s Classics, a coffee shop in Eudora, Kan.
He married Melva Burchett on Oct. 30, 1988. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Steve and Denis, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters, Amy Ellis, Walford, Iowa, Erin Wheaton, Iowa City, Iowa, and Melissa Maxey, Navarre, Fla.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother Phil, of Illinois; and three sisters, Ann Randall and Darla Nelson, both of Illinois, and Paula Ray, of Nevada.

Bolivar, Mo. — Memorial graveside services with military honors for Fred Altheide, 77, Bolivar, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Alder Cemetery, near Stockton, Mo.
