Marilyn Jean Hardy

A memorial service for Marilyn Jean Hardy, 74, McLouth, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Hardy died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.
She was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Chicago, the daughter of Clarence and Martha Fellingham Haize. She graduated from Seneca Public High School.
Mrs. Hardy earned a bachelor’s degree from Kansas University in 1959. After graduate studies at KU, she earned a master’s degree from Emporia State University in 1978.
She was a high school home economics teacher for nearly 40 years in Tonganoxie, McLouth and Lansing. Mrs. Hardy sponsored award-winning pep clubs, cheerleading groups, and a large Kayette service organization. She staged fashion shows and home tours. She was a counselor in the original Head Start program.
Mrs. Hardy was a member of the KU Alumni Association Gold Medal Club, League of Women Voters, Business and Professional Women USA, Girl Scout Advisory Council, Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Methodist Church in Tonganoxie. She was also a member and officer in the American Home Economics Association, Kansas Vocational Association, American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, KNEA and NEA.
In retirement, Mrs. Hardy belonged to quilting organizations and promoted traditional crafts such as rug making. She was a member of several rug hooking groups in Kansas including the Wooly Hawks and the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists. Mrs. Hardy also assisted several local schools with various programs.
She married Donald H. Hardy on July 18, 1959, in Baldwin City. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include, a son, David Hardy, Lawrence; a daughter, Karen Ye, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Ann Brooks, Edwardsville; and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Carol Ross and Helen Waller.
The family will receive friends from noon until the service time at the funeral home.
