James R. Smith

Funeral services for James R. Smith, 90, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Southside Church of Christ in Lawrence. Military honors and burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
He died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
He was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Milan, Mo., the son of Lee C. and Gladys M. Hennen Smith.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Hercules as a carpenter.
Mr. Smith was a member of the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14.
He married Rose W. Owen on Nov. 12, 1949, in Lawrence. She preceded him in death April 7, 2002.
Survivors include a sister, Lorain Owen, Gladstone, Mo.; a brother, Paul, Waverly, Mo.; four grandchildren, Stephen MacDougall, Patricia Lyons, and Mike and Bradley Wood; six great-grandchildren; and two stepsons, Charles Wood, Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and Marvin Wood, Lenexa.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Lacousiere; a brother, Albert; a grandson, Greg Wood; two twin great-grandsons, Matthew and Trevor; and a stepson, Ralph MacDougall.
The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. Friday until service time at the church.
