John Erwin Thoren
Memorial services for John Erwin Thoren, 59, Eudora, will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Mr. Thoren died Friday, July 30, 2010, at his farm near Eudora.
He was born Sept. 11, 1950, in Lawrence, the son of Howard and Jane Hadl Thoren.
Mr. Thoren attended Eudora schools and was a 1968 graduate of Lawrence High School. He was a lifelong resident of Eudora. He was involved in 4-H and FFA, and he received the FFA Future Farmer of the Year award in 1968. He was also recognized as a Kansas All-State Basketball player at LHS in 1968.
Mr. Thoren farmed, raised cattle, was a grade “A” dairy farmer and owned Thoren Trucking for the past 15 years, all in Eudora. He operated the family farm in western Kansas from 1975-1980. He returned to Eudora and resumed farming until he started his trucking business.
He enjoyed gardening; camping; animals and his dog, Scooby; spending time with family and friends; vacationing in the Wyoming and Colorado mountains; attending his son’s football games at LHS, Kansas University and Baker University; and watching the Kansas Jayhawks.
He married Wendy Milett in 1970.
He is survived by a daughter, Candi Cormaney and husband Wade, Lawrence; a son, Jason, Eudora; two sisters, Laura Broers and Betty Thoren, both of Eudora; and two granddaughters, Ava and Elle Cormaney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herb; and a nephew, Jim Hazlett.
The family suggests memorials in his name to American Heart Association or to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044. A memorial fund will also be established through Baldwin State Bank.
