Ruvén Bermudez

A memorial service for Ruvén Bermudez, 82, Indian Hills, Colo., will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Mr. Bermudez died Monday, March 29, 2010.
He was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Lawrence, the son of Felix and Dolores Bermudez. He grew up in Lawrence.
Mr. Bermudez worked for Kansas Cleaners. He moved to Indian Hills in 1956 where he built his own home. He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1947 to 1948 and the Jefferson County Civil Defense in Colorado in 1961.
He served in the Indian Hills Fire and Rescue Department for 20 years, retiring as assistant fire chief in 1977, and was honored as grand marshal in July 2008. He retired from Sears & Roebuck Company after 27 years in 1989.
Mr. Bermudez had many hobbies and was an avid sportsman. He made many trips to Alaska to hunt and fish. He enjoyed nature and animals. He also many made trips to Mexico and Kansas; he enjoyed visiting Lawrence and often returned for the annual St. John’s Fiesta.
Survivors include his wife, LaVeta, Indian Hills, Colo.; two daughters, Kathy Kain and husband William, Grand Junction, Colo., and Renee Martin and husband Kenneth, Denver; two brothers, Jesse and Israel, both of Lawrence; two sisters, Mickey Ramos and Rachel Lemus, both of Lawrence; a granddaughter, Cori Sayyah; a great-grandson, Addison DeJarnette-Sayyah; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maria Granados and Rosa Jimenez; and two brothers, Joe and Tony.
