J. Bernard “Bernie” Finucane
Mass of Christian Burial for J. Bernard “Bernie” Finucane, 87, Olathe, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th St., Leawood. Burial will follow immediately in Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost, Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Finucane died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Santa Marta retirement community, Olathe.
He was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Frank I. and Josephine Sheehy Finucane.
Mr. Finucane graduated from Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Mo., and from the University of Notre Dame with the class of 1944.
Mr. Finucane served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He and his wife raised their family in Kansas City, Mo. He began his sales career with Barrett-Page Chemical Co., Haver-Glover, then Pharmaseal Medical. In September 1962, he and his family moved to Topeka, where he worked for Munns Medical Supply. Mr. Finucane was vice president of Munns until June 1978. During 1974-1975, he was president of the Health Industry Distributors Association. In August 1978, Mr. Finucane started Finucane Enterprises Inc., a specialty medical supply distribution company. In May 1979, he and his family moved their home and business to Leawood. In 1980-84, he worked together with Pruett Medical in Kansas City, Mo. On July 1, 1984, Finucane Enterprises was reopened and eventually moved to its present location in Olathe. In 1982, Mr. Finucane was presented with the American Surgical Trade Association’s “Industry Award of Distinction” honor.
He enjoyed his career in sales and management. Mr. Finucane was an avid supporter of University of Notre Dame, and enjoyed his many trips back to alumni functions. He enjoyed meeting and spending time with people, his immediate and extended family, and the opportunity to travel.
He married Nanette Murphy on Aug. 14, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo. She died in 2002.
He later married Patricia Waters in May 2003. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Dennis and wife Debbie, Leawood, Pat and wife Maxine, Bucyrus, John, Kansas City, Mo, and Bill and wife Brenda, Eudora; a daughter, M. Eileen Loehr and husband Max, Lenexa; six grandchildren, Aimee Carson Boudreaux, Meghan Finucane Gatoff, Eric Loehr, Andy Loehr, Haley and Alexis Finucane; a brother-in-law, Joseph S. Geisel, Kansas City, Mo; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Patricia’s children, Jeff, Dan, Andy, Leanna, Terri, Trish, Chris, Joe and Mike.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Tom, Mary Ellen, Geraldine and Bill.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.
The family suggests memorials to a scholarship fund in his name at Rockhurst High School, 9301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64114.
