James F. “Jim” Guthrie

James “Jim” F. Guthrie, 64, of Lawrence, Kan., died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Feb. 24, 1945, the son of Irvin Jagar and Ida May Newton Guthrie. He was a graduate of Sarasota High School, and received an AA in Civil Engineering and Manufacturing and Engineering. He also received his Bachelors’ Degree from the University of South Florida.
He worked as a Quality Supply Engineer for Honeywell International for 19 yrs. He was a veteran of the United States Army, receiving two Purple Hearts for his service during Vietnam and serving from 1964 to 1969.
He was a member of the University of South Florida Alumni Association.
He married Linda G. George in Greensboro, NC., on Oct. 4, 1969. She survives of the home. Other survivors include one daughter Merritt K. Guthrie, Lawrence, and a cousin, Sid Evans, Sarasota, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Life will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel, 3821 W. Sixth St., Lawrence, KS 66049.
