Forast V. Hehn
Funeral services for Forast V. Hehn, 99, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at McLouth Cemetery.
Mr. Hehn died Friday, May 1, 2009, at Care Cottage by Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care.
He was born Feb. 14, 1910, in McLouth, the son of Valentine and Helen Jane Edmonds Hehn. He moved to Lawrence in 1947.
After graduating from high school in 1928, he attended Lawrence Business College. He worked in Washington, D.C., as a stenographer and stenotypist for the U.S. government. He was transferred to Cairo, Ill., and worked until he returned to Kansas to farm and work as a carpenter. He worked in the construction business until he retired in 1972. Some of his many projects included helping build the Campanile at Kansas University, Hallmark Cards and Lawrence High School.
Mr. Hehn was a member of Free Methodist Church, Senior Citizen Club, Autumn Club, AARP and Knife and Fork Club and the Carpenters District Council of Kansas City and Vicinity No. 1445, where he served as treasurer.
He married Thelma Ridgway on June 28, 1947, in McLouth. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Barbara Purdon and husband Mike, Ozawkie; and three grandchildren, Kathryn Ann, Erin Elizabeth and Michael Scott Purdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Louise Osborn, Beulah Hehn, Homer Hehn, Roy Hehn, Dale Hehn, Irene Dunkle and Allen Hehn.
The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care for the Care Cottage or to Lawrence Free Methodist Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
