Clara H. Cottle

Graveside services for Clara H. Cottle, 93, Topeka, will be private.
Mrs. Cottle died Thursday, April 30, 2009.
She was born June 15, 1915, in Topeka, to William Paul and Ella Emma McDermott. She was the youngest of five children.
Mrs. Cottle opened and operated for many years with her sisters a 16-chair beauty salon in Topeka called Amber Glow. She was a professional beautician before she ended her career to spend time with her family. She was a seamstress, pianist and organist, and enjoyed knitting.
She married James H. “Red” Cottle on Feb. 18, 1939. They shared 61 years of marriage. They enjoyed outdoor activities, fishing, gardening, music and dancing. He died Aug. 31, 2000.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Edna and Joe Globaznia, Lena and Glen Caskey, Bertha and Vern White, and Earl and Blanche McDermott.
Survivors include a son, Jim Cottle and wife Rieta, Topeka; three daughters, Caren Lowery and husband Ken, New Braunfels, Texas, Marla Bowles and husband Bob, Lawrence, and Jan McKinney Darrah and husband Chris, Manhattan; seven grandchildren, Shari Lowery Valadez, Gina Lowery, James V. and David Cottle, Jonathon Bowles, Kelley Casey, and Ross McKinney; and 10 great-grandchildren, Craig, Danielle, and Leslie Valadez, Kenton, Elizabeth, Dory, and Nell Casey, Aidan and Declan McKinney, and Zackery Alexander Cottle.
The family suggests memorials for the care and maintenance of the rose garden at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 4700 S.W. 17th St., Topeka, KS 66604. Dove Funeral Home in Topeka is in charge of arrangements.
