Emily Jane Prokup

Overland Park — A memorial service for Emily Jane Prokup, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Delmar Gardens, 9701 Monrovia, Overland Park. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Prokup died on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa.
She was born on April 12, 1924, in Wyandotte, Okla., the daughter of Hiram and Janie Sexton. She grew up in Wyandotte, Luther, and Oklahoma City. She had also lived in Cherryvale before moving to the Shawnee Mission area in 1967, to Lawrence in 1989 and to Kansas City, Kan., in 2003.
Mrs. Prokup worked for Peterson Cap and Gown, Burnsten Applebee, and retired from the Bank of Kansas City, also known as Trader’s Bank, in 1986.
She was a former member of First Calvary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo., and a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence.
She married Cletus Prokup, of Luther, on June 30, 1946. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her only son, Charles Alan Prokup, a baby brother, Clarence Wayne Sexton, and a baby sister, Iva Estell Sexton.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Young and husband Larry, of Kansas City, Kan.; two grandchildren, James Young and Stephanie Young; three great-grandchildren, Alexys, Jacob and Austin; two brothers, Raymond Sexton and wife Betty, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Bill Sexton and wife Betty, of Luther, Okla.; a sister, Freda Boydston and husband Jay, of Luther; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St. in Kansas City, Kan.
