Cornelia Vandervelde Fields

A memorial service for Cornelia Vandervelde Fields, 97, will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 23 at Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence.
Mrs. Fields died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009.
She was born in Emporia and received a bachelor’s degree from College of Emporia and a master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She had also attended Kansas University.
She lived in Palo Alto, Calif., Syracuse, N.Y., and Chicago before returning to Lawrence in 1946. She moved from Presbyterian Manor of Lawrence to Garden Terrace in Overland Park in 2006.
Mrs. Fields was active in League of Women Voters, Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence and many community organizations.
She married J. Eldon Fields in 1937. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Survivors include two children, Carol Fields, Mission, and Jim Fields, Silver Spring, Md.; and two grandchildren.
