Leo G. Krones

A funeral Mass for Leo G. Krones, 73, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Gilman, Ill., with the Rev. Michael Pennock officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilman.
Mr. Krones, formerly of Gilman, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born on March 11, 1936, in rural Gilman, the son of Joseph and Mary Reilly Krones. He grew up in the Leonard, Ill., area and graduated from Gilman High School in 1955.
Mr. Krones was a pressman for more than 45 years, including 42 years at Uarco. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus.
He participated in several Alzheimer’s research programs at the KU Medical Center. He enjoyed gardening, walking and spending time with his family.
He married Marcella “Sal” Lambert on April 27, 1957, in Gilman. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Susan Kitten and husband Stan, Slaton, Texas, Joyce Krones and Brenda Riggs and husband Liam, all of Lawrence; a son, John and wife Kriss, Lawrence; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Tom and wife Lois, of Chenoa, Ill., Gene and wife Betty, Williford, Ark., Steve and wife Patty, of Gilman, and Jim and wife Judy, Watseka, Ill.; two sisters, Helen Bruens and husband Gene, Watseka, and Kathy Manahan and husband Bob, of Gilman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Francis and Jerry; a sister, Maryann Anstett; a sister-in-law, Pat Krones; and a brother-in-law, Bob Anstett.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman, where a rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
