Funeral services for Clarence Richard Stewart Jr., 75, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Stewart died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Rolling Hills Health Center in Topeka.He was born Jan. 3, 1933, in Lawrence, the son of Clarence Richard Sr. and Gladys Geneva Bernhardt Stewart. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1950 and attended Kansas University, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Mr. Stewart served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked at Kansas Color Press, Winter Chevrolet, Yellow Cab and Union Cab and the Lawrence Public Library. He also worked at the Boys Club of Laguna Beach, Calif. He was a musician with many local bands and played tenor and alto saxophones, flute and clarinet.He played jazz music for 60 years with the Lawrence Horizons Band; Dick Stewart and the Seven Guys band, which he founded and led; and Jazz Haus Swing Band. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the American Legion, where he played most Thursday nights with the Junkyard Jazz band.He married Mary Ellen Dolifka on June 13, 1964, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include two sons, Kevin M. Stewart and wife Jennifer, Lawrence, and Jeffrey K. Stewart and wife Stella, currently on active duty with the U.S. Army in Fort Hood, Texas; and five grandchildren, Emersen “Emme” Kate, Cameron, Bunty, Beatrice and Oscar.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Stewart Givens.Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.The family suggests memorials to the church, Heart of America Hospice or Veterans of Foreign Wars Alford-Clarke Post 852 in Lawrence, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O.
