Herbert A. Mize

Funeral services for Herbert A. “Herb” Mize, 89, Oskaloosa, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Oskaloosa United Methodist Church, followed by Eastern Star service rites. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.Mr. Mize died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at a Topeka hospital.He was born July 11, 1918, in Oneida, the son of Carl Nolan and Edith May Ziegler Mize.Mr. Mize was a general contractor and operated Mize Construction for 40 years in the Oskaloosa and Kansas City areas. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and 50-year member of Oskaloosa Chapter 62 of the Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of the American Thoroughbred Association and Lucky Spur Saddle Club in Oskaloosa.Herb married Roberta Maxine Canon on June 25, 1937, in Dorence. She died Aug. 5, 1960.He married Miriam F. Shrimplin. They divorced.He married Edna Mae Clarke on Oct. 9, 1971, in Fort Leavenworth. She died Dec. 27, 1999.He was also preceded in death by a grandson.Survivors include three sons, Arnold M., Winchester, Robert L., Oskaloosa, and David Wayne, Wichita; two daughters, Jacqueline L. “Jackie” Quiett, Oskaloosa, and Vickie Rae Mize, Meriden; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
