Rees Burgin Carter

A celebration of life for Rees Burgin Carter, 13, of Lawrence, will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at 23rd Street Brewery, 2512 Clinton Parkway. Private family services will precede the celebration on Monday. Private inurnment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence.Rees died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, in Lawrence.He was born Aug. 16, 1994, in Las Vegas, the son of Hugh Edward and Colby Rees Carter. He had lived in Lawrence since moving with his family from Ventura, Calif., in 2006.Rees was a seventh-grade student at Southwest Junior High School. He played on the school’s football team and was enrolled in Walt’s Boxing Club, in training for the Golden Gloves competition. He enjoyed ice hockey and skateboarding.Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Cole and Tye, both of the home; his paternal grandparents, Edward Cole and Becky Burgin Carter, Lawrence; his maternal grandmother, Joan Steward Rees, Norfolk, Neb.; his paternal great-grandmother, Cleo Walthour, Lawrence; and his maternal great-grandmother, Elsie Steward, Nortonville.The family suggests memorials in his name to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Carter.
