Shirley Jean Colbert Long Mercer
Services for Shirley Jean Colbert Long Mercer, 70, Eskridge, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Eskridge United Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Eskridge Cemetery. Mrs. Mercer died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at her homeShe was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Lawrence, the daughter of Eugene Richard Colbert and Margie Louise Hodge. She attended Woodlawn and Cordley schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1956. Mrs. Mercer had worked for Kansas Color Press and Kansas University in Lawrence, and St. Francis Hospital and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in Topeka.She married Leroy Long in 1959 in Lawrence. They divorced, and he survives. She later married Larry Mercer on Sept. 26, 1975, in Alma. He survives.Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Garrison and husband David, Wichita; two sons, Edwin Long and wife Cindy, Eskridge, and Chad Mercer and wife Crystal, Olathe; two brothers, Richard Colbert and Rodney Colbert; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Eskridge.The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army, sent in care of the funeral home, 501 E.
