Clarence A. Deters

Meriden – Mass of Christian burial for Clarence A. Deters, 73, Ozawkie, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Aloysius Church in Meriden. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baileyville.Mr. Deters died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at his home after a long illness.He was born July 4, 1933, in Baileyville, the son of Anthony “Tony” and Barbara Hulsing Deters.Mr. Deters served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Korean War and was a firefighter for the city of Topeka, retiring in 1990 as a captain after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church, the Knights of Columbus in Meriden and Fourth Degree Council of K. of C. in Topeka.He married Shirley Ann Runnebaum on April 23, 1957, in Baileyville. She survives, of the home.Other survivors include a son, Steven and wife Cynthia, Abilene; a daughter, Michele Cromer and husband Greg, Lawrence; two brothers, Linus, Seneca, and Leonard, Baileyville; and four grandchildren, Trevor, Justin, Ashley and Claire.He was preceded in death by six sisters, Evelyn Olberding, Rita Schmitz, Dolores Schmitz, Dorothy Cain, Betty Kramer and Henrietta Deters.The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the church, with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday.The family suggests memorials to Birthright, the Marian Clinic or Missionaries of Charity Fathers, sent in care of Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O.
