Laura M. Petrie

Funeral Services for Laura M. Petrie, 69, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Petrie died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at her home.She was born Aug. 10, 1938, in Cedar Point, the daughter of Charles L. and Myrtle P. Joseph Scribner. Mrs. Petrie worked as an insurance clerk for Drs. Jones, Manahan, Reece for 25 years. She also worked as a paraprofessional at Quail Run School in Lawrence. She was the guardian of Marvin Goodman, a Community Living Opportunities resident. She was a member of Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, where she was a leader of the women’s ministry and the founder of WISH, a program that provided church services for mentally handicapped adults. Mrs. Petrie married Gerald E. “Jerry” Petrie on March 31, 1956, in Newkirk, Okla. He survives, of the home.Other survivors include three daughters, Jeri Jo Powers and husband Mitch, Shawnee, and Teri Smith and husband Sam, and Sheri Nieder and husband Mike, Lawrence; three sons, Kyle and wife Jacqui, Cape Coral, Fla., Steven, Lawrence, and Scott and wife Nancy, Williamsport, Pa.; three brothers, Nat J. Scribner, Harrisonville, Mo., John Scribner, the Philippines, and Ed Scribner, Blackfoot, Idaho; two sisters, Charlene Hickock, Lawrence, and Burt Morrison, Harrisonville, Mo.; and 14 grandchildren, Madison, Stephanie, Kylie, David, Brian, Kyle, Erika, Ryan, Jeanette, Christopher, Jerod, Brityn, Taeler and Cale.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Clinton Parkway Assembly of God.The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association-Oncology Department or Cottonwood Inc., sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.Online condolences may be sent at www.warrenmcelwain.com, subject: Petrie.
