Gayle Frances Gardner

Services for Glen Eldon Gardner, 73, and Gayle Frances Woods Graham Gardner, 65, both of Olpe, will be at 1 p.m. today in the Hartford High School gym.Mr. Gardner died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, and Mrs. Gardner died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, after a vehicle accident in Joplin, Mo.He was born June 28, 1932, in Emporia, the son of Lyman B. and Helen M. Karr Gardner. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1950.Mr. Gardner was a rural mail carrier for more than 30 years in Hartford and Yates Center. He was past president of Rural Letter Carriers Assn. and president of Olpe Chapter Lions Club.Mrs. Gardner was born Nov. 20, 1940, in Wichita, the daughter of Fred and Sarah Oliver Woods. She graduated from Mulvane High School and Kansas State Teachers College with a degree in elementary education. She lived most of her adult life in the Emporia area.Mrs. Gardner was an archivist for Lyon County Historical Museum and a professional genealogist. She was a member of Flint Hills Genealogical Society, Kansas State Historical Society, Lyon County Republican Women, Eastern Star and a 4-H member and leader. She published numerous historical and genealogical books of families and area towns.They married in May 1993 in Olpe.Mr. Gardner’s survivors include three sons, Gil and Nolan, Hartford, and Daryl, Udall; a daughter, Carolyn Gardner Boyd, Fowler; two stepdaughters, Kelly Graham Smith, Lawrence, and Gretchen Graham Baijnauth, Omaha, Neb.; a stepson, Donnie Wilson, Oregon; a brother, Gene, Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.Mrs. Gardner’s survivors include her father; two daughters, Kelly Graham Smith, Lawrence, and Gretchen Graham Baijnauth, Omaha, Neb.; four stepsons, Gil and Nolan Gardner, both of Hartford, Daryl Gardner, Udall, and Donnie Wilson, Oregon; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Boyd, Fowler; a sister, Faye Woods Stander; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.The family suggests memorials to the Gayle Woods Gardner Book Fund for Children, Hartford High School Alumni Scholarship Fund or Olpe Chapter Lions Club.
