Phyllis Irene Sturdevant

Funeral services for Phyllis Irene Sturdevant, 82, Lawrence, formerly of Chanute, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial park Cemetery.Mrs. Sturdevant died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa.She was born May 30, 1923, in Hamilton, the daughter of Albert and Mabel Orr Markham. She graduated from Chanute High School and attended Chanute Junior College.Mrs. Sturdevant was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church, Baptist Church Ladies Group and also a volunteer for the hospital auxiliary and school district.She married James W. Sturdevant on March 13, 1943, in Chanute. He died July 24, 1994.A daughter, Sandra F. Sommers, also died earlier.She is survived by a son, Richard Sturdevant, Lawrence; three brothers, Paul D. Markham, Redstone, Colo., Bobby G. Markham, Centennial, Colo., and Thomas O. Markham, Denver; a sister, Alice F. Currier, Emporia; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Chanute.The family suggests memorials to Southern Care Hospice of Lawrence or to the Leukemia Society, in care of the funeral home at 16 N.
