Dorothy L. Hilger
A Mass of Christian Burial service for Dorothy L. Hilger, 93, rural Ozawkie, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Church in Meriden. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.Mrs. Hilger died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at her home.She was born Oct. 28, 1911, in Erie, the daughter of John Graham and Zella Olive Osburn Hemphill. She had lived in Ozawkie since 1971 after moving from Kansas City, Kan., where she had lived since 1946.She was a 1929 graduate of Chanute High School. Mrs. Hilger worked in air traffic communication for the Civil Aviation Authority for many years. She also had worked as a Western Union telegraph operator.She was a member of St. Aloysius Church.She married Paul Nicholas Hilger Sr. on June 20, 1936, in Chanute. He died June 6, 2002.Survivors include two sons, Paul N. “Nick” Hilger Jr., Overland Park, and Louis John “Lou” Hilger, Elizabeth City, N.C.; four daughters, Janet Hilger Glatz, Ozawkie, Jane Hilger O’Toole, Kissimmee, Fla., Joan Hilger Mullen, Lenexa, and Julia Hilger Ward, Topeka; three sisters, Hannah Lee Grote, Palatine, Ill., Kathryn Fiskin, Placentia, Calif., and Margaret Peggy Grillot, Palm Harbor, Fla.; 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where a parish prayer service will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a rosary recitation.
