Douglas County further clarified mask requirements at public county buildings via social media Thursday.
While face masks will continue to be required at a few buildings due to federal regulations and other standards, other county buildings won’t require masks any longer. That change immediately follows the expiration of the county’s public health order that had mandated that masks be worn by anyone age 2 and older in public spaces.
Specifically, county employees and members of the public are no longer required to wear masks at buildings owned, leased and operated by Douglas County such as the Douglas County Courthouse, the Human Services Building, the Elections Office and the county office at 1006 New Hampshire St.
Only a handful of county buildings are exceptions to that change: the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, the Douglas County Jail and Juvenile Detention Center.
County Administrator Sarah Plinsky told the Journal-World Wednesday that for the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, the requirement continues because of an administrative order from Chief Judge James R. McCabria. Meanwhile, federal regulations keep a mask requirement in effect at the jail and Juvenile Detention Center.
