The Lawrence Police Department urged residents to avoid the area of Fourth and Minnesota streets on Friday afternoon after a shooting at an apartment complex on Lynch Court.

LPD confirmed the shooting Friday in a Facebook post that said a patient was taken to an area hospital and a suspect was believed to have left the area in a vehicle. At 3:45 p.m., they updated the post to say a suspect was in custody after an extensive search and neighbors in the area of Fourth and Minnesota could return home.

“There is no continued danger in the area and it is not where the arrest occurred,” the post said and included that the victim in the shooting was in critical condition.
