Lawrence, area school districts closed today; KU to delay opening until noon as ice coats roadways

Lawrence public schools and several others in the area are closed Monday, Jan. 22 due to icy road conditions. Here’s a look at several closings.
• The University of Kansas will delay opening the Lawrence, Edwards and Leavenworth campuses until noon today.
• Lawrence public schools have canceled classes and activities.
• Baldwin City public schools have canceled classes. Decisions on whether athletic events and other activities will be held today will be made by noon.
• Eudora public schools have canceled classes.
• Perry-Lecompton public schools have canceled classes.
• Bishop Seabury Academy is closed for the day.
• The Lawrence Public Library will delay its opening until noon.
• The Lawrence Arts Center has canceled all classes scheduled for before 5 p.m. today. A decision on whether classes scheduled for after 5 p.m. will be made by 2 p.m. today and announced on the Art Center’s website.
All of Douglas County, and most of the surrounding area, is in a winter weather advisory until noon today due to icy conditions. The forecast from the National Weather Service calls for chances of freezing rain throughout today and parts of Tuesday. The forecast calls for various chances of freezing rain today and this evening. Ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch is possible on Monday night. The forecast calls for the chances of freezing rain to decline by 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Temperatures are then expected to rise to the low 40s.
